RED-Compliant Radio Modules: 3 Key Integration Checks

RED-compliant radio module integration and EMC testing for wireless electronic products

Does a RED-Compliant Radio Module Make Your Product Compliant?

A compliant radio module is a good starting point, but antenna selection, EMC and integration can change the picture.

You’ve selected a radio module with a valid EU Declaration of Conformity. Does that mean your finished product is ready for the EU market?

Not necessarily.

A compliant module can simplify development, but its assessment is based on specific configurations and operating conditions. Once integrated into a product, other components and design choices can affect its performance and compliance with the EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED).

Three Things Worth Checking

1. Antenna selection and placement

Changing the antenna type, gain or position can affect radio performance and may require additional compliance evaluation.

2. EMC and product integration

Power supplies, processors, enclosures and nearby electronics can introduce interference or change how the radio performs in the finished product.

3. Documentation and testing

Review the module manufacturer’s integration instructions, approved configurations and compliance documentation. Assess whether additional testing is needed for the complete product.

The takeaway? A compliant radio module is a valuable starting point, but the finished product still needs its own compliance assessment.
