Choosing a RED-assessed Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or cellular module can save significant development effort. But there is an important question that is easy to overlook:
What happens to compliance once you put that module inside your product?
The module was assessed under defined conditions. Your finished product introduces a new antenna environment, enclosure, power supply, PCB, cables, interfaces, and software. These can change EMC and radio behaviour.
The challenge for development teams is therefore not simply knowing that further assessment may be needed. It is working out what needs to be checked, what existing evidence can be used, and where additional testing makes sense.
That is what will be the main focus of EKTOS Testing & Reliability Services’ next Open Lab Session on October 22. From 1500-1700, at their Hvidovre test lab.
Using a product with an integrated radio module, TRS test engineers will discuss the
- Difference between RED-assessed and non-assessed modules
- What to consider in the finished host product
- Demonstrate selected tests in the lab.
- Briefly look at modular approval considerations for the US and Canada.
Have questions about radio module integration? Bring them to the lab.
