In modern electronics, we see that clock frequencies moves towards higher and higher frequencies. At the same time, the power rail voltage and the tolerances becomes smaller and smaller for certain chip technologies. Today, the R&D engineer wants to analyze the power rail, sometimes up into the GHz range, searching for unwanted distribution of high speed clock signals. This includes FFT analysis as well. The general problem for doing these measurements is that the oscilloscope misses a sufficient offset range when using the most sensitive voltage ranges and a 1:1 voltage probe. In addition, the probe bandwidth can be a problem.
