cEDM presents it’s toolbox to support efficient and low risk New Product Introduction.

When developing a new product, an electronics designer is faced with a lot of risks to take into account from the point of view of functionality, performance, design, manufacturability and reliability of the hardware.

cEDM, a department of IMEC, has developed several analysis tools that allow estimating product reliability risks, helping to mitigate the issues, and propose good design practices. In this way, the designer contributes to an efficient manufacturing and a low risk New Product Introduction.

During the workshop, cEDM experts will focus on two important aspects of predicting reliability risks:

  1. The FMEA tool (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) provides a structured comprehensive overview of potential Printed Board Assembly issues. The tool indicates which issues have priority and suggests ways to avoid the problems.
  2. Pred-X is a tool that predicts production quality, test coverage and assembly cost. It only needs the input of the BOM (Bill Of Material) and basic assembly information.

Target group
This workshop is of interest to all involved in or responsible for the design, production, quality, test, supply and system integration of electronics in products for which reliability is an essential property.

cEDM is the Center of Electronics Design & Manufacturing and its activities include networking, knowledge sharing and collaboration to support the development of high quality, reliable and cost-effective printed boards.

cEDM is part of IMEC, a world leading research institute for nano-electronics from Leuven, Belgium. IMEC delivers relevant technology solutions for the industry.

The presentations will be in English. By e-mail or link prior to the workshop, the participants get hand-outs of the workshop presentations.

The speakers of the workshop are:

  • Riet Labie, M.Sc. Material Science, PhD. Riet is an R&D project manager, and takes care of all chemical and material discussions in the cEDM team. She has a large experience in the IMEC research departments.
  • Boris Leekens, B.Sc. Electronics Engineering, MBA. Boris is managing all industrial projects in the cEDM team. He has a large industrial experience with design, assembly and test of electronic modules, and with project management.
