Kontron and Zixi has announced that they have launched a high-density, low-cost transcoder for 4K OTT video delivery at NAB Show 2019.
The ever-growing need for traditional media companies to embrace OTT is due to the increasing demand to access content – from anywhere and from any device. In response to the rise in multiscreen applications, the joint collaboration enables high-density OTT content delivery in any streaming format or resolution direct to laptops, smartphones, streaming video players, and SmartTVs, from a single, consolidated 2U platform.
Zixi Broadcaster software is compatible with all common broadcast codecs and workflows and can run on Kontron MS2900 converged 2U platforms delivering up to 18x 4K channels (ABR HLS/MPEG-DASH) in HEVC (H.265) format, plus many more channels of HD in H.264 format. The Zixi ABR streaming capabilities dynamically adjust stream rates to adapt to changing network conditions to deliver the best quality video possible to each viewer. All of this translates into best-in-class 4K workload performance per watt and unparalleled video quality viewing experience.
The SYMKLOUD MS2900 platform supports up to nine (9) modular server blades, each containing two independent CPUs for a total of 18 CPUs, or a single CPU paired with a single NVIDIA Tesla P4 for a total of 9 GPUs and 9 CPUs in a compact 2U enclosure. Operators can mix and match various types of consumable components in the same chassis and opt for a PCIe card for ASI acquisition. This results in an all-in-one, ultra-high-density platform that unlocks robust content delivery over IP.
“Our combined high density HEVC and H.264 transcoding solution is the perfect package for industry leaders to be able to dramatically reduce TCO and operational costs versus standard commodity servers,” said Tim Baldwin, Head of Product, Zixi. “The ability to provide the media market with a single hardware platform that delivers cost-effective OTT content to any end device is ground-breaking.”
“We have built the SYMKLOUD in such a way that there are no service disruptions for end customers,” explains Bertrand Foulon, Business Development Manager, Video market, Kontron Communications. “Due to the redundant architecture of the system and modularity of its components, operators don’t need to worry about the reliability of their investment, and neither do our transcoding software partners.”
